Pablo Valbuena

The artist, Pablo Valbuena, was born in Spain and graduated from ETSAM — the Graduate School of Architecture in Madrid. Since the mid-2000s, he has been fascinated by the interweaving of the real world and virtual experience. His approach is that of a site-specific artist, and his preferred mediums are sound and light: Pablo Valbuena transforms spaces using ‘perception tools’, rather than physical, tangible elements. He used the technique of video mapping particularly between 2008 and 2013 to create luminous, minimalist mappings of spaces, project these same spaces and modify the perception of them. His works (including other forms of light installations) have been presented in Europe, Asia (particularly Seoul) and the USA. Invited to Le Fresnoy (the French national contemporary arts studio in Tourcoing) in 2016, Pablo Valbuena received the Médaille des Arts de l’Académie d’Architecture de France in 2020. He lives and works in south-west France.
