Spectaculaires - Allumeurs d’images

The director of the Breton company Spectaculaires - Allumeurs d’images, Benoit Quero, is unusual in not having followed any artistic training beforehand. His atypical path was the fruit of experiences, lectures and lucky meetings, especially with the photography director Henri Alekan, who encouraged him to become a scenographer — initially for the theatre. With an instinctive feel for lighting, he founds Spectaculaires in 1987 and becomes known for his PANI image projections at the Château de Combourg and his first ‘safaris lumière’ in Côtes-d’Armor in 1993, followed by his illuminations of the megaliths of Carnac in 1994. In 2006, Spectaculaires invests in a set of video projectors and gives its first monumental video projection show in Nancy: RDV place Stanislas. Two years later, the company wins the Trophée des Lumières de Lyon with Le Petit Géant [Ndlt: the little giant]. Based, since 2005, in the Pays de Brocéliande, in Saint-Thurial, Spectaculaires has presented several shows overseas: in Brazil, the United Arab Emirates, Tunisia and Vietnam. Spectaculaires’ approach is characterised by a desire to maintain a dialogue between creation and technology, striking a balance between them: the goal is to foster the imaginary, to open an ‘enchanted interlude’ for the audience. Spectaculaires is composed of artistic and technical teams, alongside a research and development team. It can thus avoid using subcontractors to design and produce its shows.
